Equally Well call to action

Published by Tūtohi on

Equally Well have issued a call to all champions to reach out to tāngata whai ora.

As of 6 September 2021, only 19% of people in contact with specialist mental health and addiction services have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The evidence suggests that the risk of dying from COVID-19 may be up to twice as high for people with experience of mental health and addiction issues, and even higher for certain diagnoses and people with more complex needs. Tāngata whai ora have been included as a priority group in the vaccination rollout after the hard work of initiatives like Equally Well.

However, the data suggests this high risk group of people are not seeing the same level of uptake or vaccination rates as other people in Aotearoa. Taimi Allan was interviewed on RNZ Checkpoint to discuss this further.

Update 24/09: check out our recent data story about Vaccination rates in Aotearoa.
